Benefits of sauna

What the heat does

We are carpenters, not clinicians, so here is the honest version: what the research points to, what regular bathers reliably report, and where the two are not the same thing.

What the heart does at 180°F

Twenty minutes on the bench puts your heart rate where a brisk walk puts it, and your vessels dilate to push blood out to the skin. The long Finnish cohort work - thousands of men followed for two decades - found frequent bathers had lower rates of cardiovascular events than once-a-week bathers. That is an association across a population, not a promise about you, but it is the most substantial evidence there is.

Sore legs, shorter

Heat opens peripheral circulation and keeps it open well after you step out. Research suggests a session following hard training can take the edge off delayed-onset muscle soreness and bring range of motion back sooner. Most of our customers discover this the morning after a long ride rather than in a study.

The sleep arrives later

A session drives your core temperature up, and over the two hours that follow it falls below where it started. That downward slope is one of the signals the body uses to begin sleep. Regular evening use is associated with people reporting they fall asleep faster - finish an hour or two before bed rather than on your way to it.

Where the day finally goes

Heat this intense is a stressor, and the body answers it with a parasympathetic rebound: the slow, heavy calm that shows up around ten minutes in and stays for an hour after you leave. Studies of regular bathers report lower perceived stress and a cortisol curve that settles rather than spikes.

Sweat, skin and circulation

You will lose close to a pint of water in a good session, and the blood your body sends to the skin to cool you is what leaves the flush behind. Bathers consistently report softer skin; what is measurable is the jump in skin blood flow. Drink before, drink after, and keep a glass on the bench.

Twenty minutes with nothing in your hands

There is no signal in a cedar room and nowhere sensible to put a phone. What people tell us they come back for is rarely the heat - it is the one part of the day that asks nothing of them. Call it attention restoration, or call it quiet.

It gets easier, and that is the point

Heat adaptation is real and measurable. Over weeks of consistent use, plasma volume rises and you begin sweating earlier and more efficiently. Endurance athletes train in heat for exactly this reason. In a Florida August you will notice the difference outside the sauna as much as in it.

A note before you start

None of this is medical care. Sauna heat is a real load on your cardiovascular system: if you are pregnant, live with a heart condition, take medication that affects blood pressure or heat regulation, or are recovering from anything significant, talk to your doctor before you start. Everyone should drink water, skip the alcohol, and step out the moment the room tells them to.

The workshop

Dry-fitted before it ships

Every sauna that leaves our shop stands up on the floor first: we fit the door and run the heater — then take it apart and crate it in the order you will need the pieces.

We buy cedar by the lift and choose the boards for each sauna together, so the walls and benches of yours came off wood that grew side by side. The color runs continuously across the room instead of jumping light to dark.

Outdoor saunas are framed like small buildings, many with a full glass front onto the yard; indoor rooms are framed, insulated and lined in place by the same carpenters. Either way the room is laid out to your length and depth and heated by a 9 kW electric heater on 220 V.

Our own crew delivers and installs every one, anywhere in Florida — from Pensacola and Tallahassee to Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa Bay, Naples, Miami and the Keys. You choose the installation service; the people who built it set it up.

  • Pacific Northwest cedar, hand-selected by the lift
  • Built to your length and depth, with a standard 7-foot ceiling
  • Dry-assembled and heat-tested before it is crated

Electrical work is not included. We don’t run circuits or connect the heater to your electrical line — that needs a licensed electrician, hired by you, to run a dedicated 220 V circuit on a 50-amp breaker and make the connection.

Questions we hear weekly

How is a custom sauna priced?

By its footprint. Every custom build's page has a size calculator: put in the length and depth of your space and it prices a sauna built to that size, with our standard 7-foot (84-inch) ceiling - a 6 ft x 6 ft sauna, for example, is $7,200. Choose your upgrades and installation on the same page and order it like any other sauna, or have the figure emailed to you from the quote page or the quote button under any of our build videos. Our standard models, the Gulf Cabin and the Keystone indoor room, carry a fixed price on their own page. If your space has something a length and depth cannot describe, call the shop and we will talk it through.

What kind of power does a sauna need?

Our electric heaters are 9 kW and run on 220 V, on a dedicated circuit with a 50-amp breaker - in the Keystone indoor room, the Gulf Cabin and our custom builds alike. (Some of our trailer builds burn wood instead and need no circuit at all.) Electrical work is not included. We don’t run circuits or connect the heater to your electrical line — that needs a licensed electrician, hired by you, to run a dedicated 220 V circuit on a 50-amp breaker and make the connection. We confirm the spec against your panel before we cut anything, give your electrician the exact spec sheet, and talk to them directly if they want to walk through it.

How long does it take to heat up?

It comes down to the volume of the room. Every electric heater we fit is 9 kW, so a smaller room gets there sooner than a larger one: a cabin the size of the Gulf wants forty to fifty minutes from a cold start in winter. Ask us about your footprint and we will tell you what to expect.

Should the sauna go indoors or outside?

Either - we build both. Outdoor saunas go on patios, pool decks and backyards, many with a full glass front, and are framed and roofed for Florida weather: the Gulf Cabin has a standing-seam roof and a thermally modified exterior rated for coastal exposure, and needs no slab, just a level pad. Indoors you need a dedicated 220 V circuit on a 50-amp breaker, run by your own licensed electrician, plus a vapor barrier and somewhere for moisture to go: our carpenters frame, line and trim the sauna into a bathroom, garage or spare room you already have.

How do delivery and installation work?

Every sauna we sell is delivered and installed by our own crew, anywhere in Florida from the Panhandle to the Keys - there is no self-install option. It works the same way for a standard model and a custom build priced by size: you choose the installation service on the sauna's page before it goes in your cart, with each service's price beside it - white-glove placement or full installation for a sauna we deliver, an indoor build-in for a room we build in place - and a delivered sauna adds Florida delivery, $249 and free on orders over $6,000. Either way our crew positions and levels the sauna, then takes every scrap of packaging away. Electrical work is not included. We don’t run circuits or connect the heater to your electrical line — that needs a licensed electrician, hired by you, to run a dedicated 220 V circuit on a 50-amp breaker and make the connection.

What maintenance does it actually need?

Sweep the floor, leave the door cracked after a session so the room dries, and scrub the benches with water and a stiff brush a few times a year. Never seal or stain cedar on the inside - that is the one thing that will ruin it. Plan on fresh heater stones every two to three years. Outside, thermally modified poplar and ash weather to a silver-grey on their own and ask nothing of you.

How long until mine is built?

Everything is built to order in Sarasota, so nothing sits in a warehouse waiting for you. Your sauna is delivered in 7 to 10 business days, counted from the day we confirm your specification - a standard model and a custom build alike. You get a firm date the day your build starts, and a photo of it on the bench before it crates.

Still deciding? Call the shop at (941) 400-9141 or send us the details of your space — we will tell you honestly which room fits it, including when the answer is the cheaper one.

Talk to the builder

No showroom script and no pressure. Price a custom build at the length and depth of your space on its own page, have the figure emailed to you, or tell us the room, the number of people and the power you have, and we will tell you what we would build for it.
