Buying guide

What is worth it

Where to spend first, and what to check before you order a part.

Not sure what fits your room? Call the workshop at (941) 400-9141 or email support@saunacustom.com with your model or your room's inside dimensions and we will check it against the build sheet before you spend anything.

  1. Which upgrades are worth the money

If you buy one thing from this page, make it stone. Sauna rock is a consumable: it fractures under repeated heating and cooling, loses density, and a heater full of crumbling stone gives you a sharp, dry heat instead of the rounded steam you paid for. Hand-sorted vulcanite graded for size keeps air moving through the column properly and lasts years longer than the commodity rock that ships in most heater boxes. Plan on replacing stone every three to five years of regular use, whatever brand you buy.

After that, spend on what you touch. A contoured cedar backrest and headrest set gives you somewhere to lean back on the bench, and the bucket, ladle and thermometer-hygrometer set is how you put water on the stones and read what the room is doing. The backrest set, the bucket set and the stones are also offered on our saunas’ own pages, the custom builds priced by size included, so they can go on the same order as the sauna. If you want cover past the standard 1-year warranty, the Extended 1-Year Warranty is optional: $875 per year, up to five years, and nothing on a sauna page adds it unless you switch it on.

  2. What to check before you order a part

Tell us which sauna you have before you order stone, and we will check the bag against the heater on your build sheet. Every electric heater we fit is 9 kW, on 220 V and a dedicated 50-amp breaker. Electrical work is not included. We don’t run circuits or connect the heater to your electrical line — that needs a licensed electrician, hired by you, to run a dedicated 220 V circuit on a 50-amp breaker and make the connection. Anything that touches bare skin, benches, backrests and headrests, should be clear cedar rather than a hardwood that conducts heat, which is why ours are cut from the same lift of western red cedar as the benches they sit against. And extended warranty years carry the standard 1-year warranty on your sauna forward, one year at a time, on the same terms.
