Side-Yard Sauna with Picture Window

The details

A sauna for a narrow side yard

This cabin stands in the strip between the grey wall of the house and a black metal fence, on large grey pavers. The outside is clad in horizontal knotty boards with a clear amber finish, under a mono-pitch roof edged in black trim.

A full-height bronze-tinted glass door with a vertical wood bar handle sits on the short end, so you step in lengthwise.

Inside

The walls are vertical tongue-and-groove knotty boards, pale with dark knots, under a slightly darker board ceiling and over a wood-plank floor. One straight bench runs along the right wall from the door to the far end. There an electric heater, stones in its top basket, is mounted low on the end wall with a wood guard rail around it and two control knobs on its base.

A long horizontal window, framed in wood, runs down the left wall and looks out over the lawn and the palms, so daylight fills the room. A round dial gauge hangs on the wall.
