White Glass-Front Backyard Sauna

The details

A glass-front box beside the house

This compact sauna stands on the lawn against the house wall, tucked just under the tile-roof eave. It has its own single-slope roof in dark corrugated metal. The outside is white grooved-panel siding with white trim around the glass, and the box sits raised on a dark base.

Most of the front is one tall fixed glass panel, so from the yard you look straight into the wood interior. The door is frameless full-height glass, hung in the narrow side wall on black hinges with a black ladder pull. The wall opposite the door is solid siding.

Inside

Pale knotty boards run vertically on the walls, with matching tongue-and-groove boards on the ceiling and a plank floor. A single-tier plank bench runs along the back wall from the door end to the heater, with room for 2-3 adults. The electric heater stands at the far end beside the glass front — stone basket on top, controls on the lower front — behind a wood rail that runs out from the end of the bench. The glass front fills the room with daylight.
